Margati is where you do your schoolwork, so we hold something personal: your work itself. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can get it back or erase it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
Margati is a study workspace for students. This policy covers the Margati website, the Margati mobile apps, and the backend services behind them. We built Margati so a student can complete an assignment without a second screen. That means your work (your answers, your notes, and your sketches) passes through our systems. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what control you have over it.
Account information: - Name and email address, required to create an account. - Phone number, optional. Signup works without it. - Password, stored only as a salted hash. We never store or transmit your password in readable form. - Profile photo, optional. Location metadata (EXIF/GPS) is stripped from the image before it leaves your device. Your schoolwork: - Assignments you upload (PDF, DOCX, TXT) and photographs of assignment pages. - Answers you write, freehand ink and sketches from the notes canvas, tables, and diagrams. - Explanations you write during Feynman and Check My Work reviews. - Images you attach to your answers. Support and feedback: - Messages, ratings, and feedback you send us.
- Identifiers: an account identifier, and a device identifier used to deliver push notifications. - Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device details, which screens you open, and how you move through a study session. - Diagnostics: crash reports and error diagnostics, so we can fix what breaks. - Approximate location: our sign-in provider may derive an approximate (city-level) location from your network connection. Margati does not request precise location. The mobile apps do not ask for location permission and cannot access your device's GPS.
Google Classroom (optional): if you link Classroom, we request read-only access to your course list, your own coursework, and read-only access to Drive files attached to that coursework. We use this solely to import your assignments into Margati. We do not modify your Classroom data, and we do not read Drive files unrelated to your coursework. You can disconnect at any time. Sign in with Google / Sign in with Apple (optional): if you sign in this way, the provider gives us your name and email to create your account. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever receive the relay address, never your real one.
- To run the workspace: break assignments into questions, save your work, and sync it across your devices. - To generate study help: concept explanations, hints, and feedback on your written answers. - To track your progress: streaks, mastery of weak spots, and integrity receipts. - To send notifications you have opted into, such as study reminders. - To process payments for website purchases, and to keep your plan status current. - To keep the service working: diagnostics, crash reports, security, and abuse prevention. - To meet legal obligations. We do not use your data for advertising or marketing profiling, and we do not run ad networks in Margati.
Margati uses AI models to decode uploaded assignments into individual questions, generate concept explanations, and give feedback on answers you write. This means the content of your assignments and your written answers is processed by these models to produce your study materials. This processing supports features you have asked for; it is not used to make decisions about you, and it produces no legal or similarly significant effects.
Margati processes assignment uploads, student-entered content, AI interactions, subject labels, learning signals, sticky spots, and mastery data to provide learning support and product functionality. - We do not sell student content. - We do not use student content for behavioral advertising. - We do not use student content to train foundation AI models by default. Stored uploads and learning data are encrypted, access-restricted, retained only as long as needed, and deleted on request or on account deletion.
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites. Margati contains no advertising identifiers and shows no ATT tracking prompt, because there is nothing to track you with. We share data only with service providers who help us run Margati: cloud hosting and storage, payment processing for website purchases, push notification delivery, crash reporting and analytics, and email delivery. They may process your data only on our instructions, under contract. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number. We may also disclose data where legally required, or to protect the safety and integrity of the platform.
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, without contacting us. - In the mobile app: Profile → Account → Delete my account. - On the web: Profile → Danger Zone → Delete account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm, because this cannot be undone. Deleting your account permanently removes your assignments and their questions, your answers, notes and sketches, integrity receipts, streak and activity history, mastery and weak-spot records, notifications, invitations, and your profile. Your push notification registration is removed so your devices stop receiving messages. Residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups and object storage subject to routine retention cycles, after which they are erased. If you have a paid plan, cancel it on the website first. If you would prefer we handle the deletion for you, email contact@margati.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: - Access the personal data we hold about you. - Correct inaccurate data; most profile fields are editable in the app. - Export your data in a portable, machine-readable format. - Object to or restrict certain processing. - Withdraw consent for optional features, such as push notifications or a linked Classroom account. - Opt out of having your data used to improve AI systems, where applicable. - Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. You can manage most of these settings in your account, or email contact@margati.com to make a request. We comply with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws. Exercising these rights will never cost you anything or degrade your service.
We keep your account and your work for as long as your account is open, because a study workspace is only useful if your past work is still there. When you delete your account, the data listed in Section 9 is erased. Diagnostic and crash data is retained on a rolling short-term basis and is not linked to your identity. We may retain limited records for longer where the law requires it, including records of payments.
- Your work is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher) and at rest. - On mobile, your saved work is encrypted on the device with AES-256. The key lives in the device's secure hardware (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore), never alongside the data. - Signing out erases the locally stored work from the device, so a shared or borrowed device does not leak the previous student's answers. - Access to production systems is role-based and logged. No system is perfectly secure. Use a strong, unique password, and tell us at contact@margati.com if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.
Push notifications are optional. Margati works fully without them, and we never require you to enable them. If you opt in, we register your device to deliver study reminders and streak nudges. You can turn them off inside Margati, or in your device settings, at any time. Deleting your account removes the registration entirely.
On the web we use: - Essential cookies, including the secure httpOnly cookies that keep you signed in. These cannot be disabled without breaking sign-in. - Analytics cookies, to understand how the product is used and improve performance. - Preference cookies, to remember your settings. You can manage or disable cookies via your browser settings. Some features may not work as intended without them.
Margati may offer optional accessibility and reading-support settings, such as a dyslexia-friendly display mode that adjusts font, spacing, and layout for easier reading. These settings are user interface preferences only. Margati does not require you to disclose a medical diagnosis, disability status, IEP, 504 plan, or similar documentation to use them, and we do not use these settings for advertising, segmentation, pricing, or external profiling.
Margati is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and children under 13 may not create accounts or use logged-in Margati services. Margati is not part of Apple's Kids Category. You must also meet the minimum age required by the laws of your country. Where local law requires (for example, 16 in parts of the EU/EEA, or 18 in India unless a legally compliant parental-consent process is available), a higher minimum age applies. If you are under 18, you may use Margati only with permission from your parent or legal guardian. Where a school or institution provisions Margati for its students, that institution is responsible for obtaining any consent required in its jurisdiction. If we learn that a user is under the applicable minimum age, we may suspend the account and delete the associated personal data. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at contact@margati.com and we will delete it.
Margati is accessible globally. Your data may be transferred to and stored in countries outside your own, including the United States. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure it is protected through appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other legal mechanisms.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any significant changes will be communicated through the platform or via email. The latest version will always be available at margati.ai/privacy.
